Over the last 30 years, “pit bull” type dogs have been most commonly targeted under breed-specific legislation, partly because of the notion that they are owned and sought after by “undesirable” owners.

However, this is a perception issue and can extend to many different breeds. Boxers, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Chow Chows, Akitas, Shar Peis, German Shepherds, and Mastiff breeds are just a few that have been restricted in parts of Canada.
