We reviewed the bylaws of British Columbia jurisdictions to determine where breed-specific bylaws exist in our province. The list is organized by region and includes communities with a population of 2000 or more. Northern BC/Cariboo

Breed Specific Language

Dawson Creek (Bylaw 4122) – pit bull breeds deemed vicious; muzzle, leash, and containment requirements apply.

Fort Nelson (Bylaw 711) – pit bull breeds deemed dangerous; muzzle, leash, increased fees, containment, and signage requirements apply.

Prince Rupert (Bylaw 3250) – pit bull and some mastiff breeds deemed restricted; muzzle, leash, increased fees, containment, and signage requirements apply.

Breed Neutral Language

100 Mile House, Burns Lake, Chetwynd, Fort St. James, Fort St. John, Fraser Lake, Houston, Kitimat, Prince George, Quesnel, Smithers, Terrace, Tumbler Ridge, Williams Lake, Vanderhoof.

Elkford (Bylaw 538) – pit bull breeds deemed restricted; muzzle and leash requirements apply.

Enderby (Bylaw 1469) – pit bull breeds deemed restricted but no specific requirements noted.

Fernie (Bylaw 1995) – pit bull breeds deemed dangerous; muzzle, leash, containment and increased fee requirements apply.

Nelson (Bylaw 2333) – pit bull breeds deemed vicious; muzzle, leash, containment, increased fees, and insurance requirements apply.

Osoyoos (Bylaw 1316) – pit bull breeds deemed restricted; muzzle and leash requirements apply.

Trail (Bylaw 1999) – pit bull breeds deemed vicious; muzzle, leash, containment, and increased fee requirements apply.

Richmond (Bylaw 7932) – pit bull breeds deemed dangerous; muzzle, leash, containment, and increased fee requirements apply.

West Vancouver (Bylaw 4545) – pit bull breeds deemed aggressive; leash and containment requirements apply.

North Cowichan (Bylaw 2856) – pit bull breeds deemed vicious; muzzle, leash, containment, and increased fee requirements apply. Exemption provided for Canadian Kennel Club registration.

Parksville (Bylaw 1524) – pit bull breeds deemed dangerous/aggressive; muzzle, containment, and increased fee requirements apply.
