Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw Review

We are incredibly disappointed that Calgary – once a leader in effective breed-neutral legislation - now seems to have BSL on the table. In their recent call for public feedback on a new animal control bylaw, they have proposed a number of restrictions on “pit bull” type dogs.
We have a lot to say about this and will be publishing posts over the next week.
The most important thing you can do is make your voice heard now. They are asking for our feedback and we need to give it. We highly encourage all Calgary residents and stakeholders to complete the survey and send the clear message that we do not support breed specific legislation in our city.
A number of people are understandably shocked and upset by this, and we are hearing rumblings of protests and other measures. We do not recommend these actions at this time. For now, please stay calm and send polite, constructive, and continued feedback to the city. Here are some tips
1. Take the survey HERE
2. Email Calgary City and Council with a short and polite message indicating your support for breed-neutral legislation HERE
3. Join the Justice for Bullies Calgary group for updates and calls to action.
4. Participate in the hashtag campaign: #BSLfreeYYC
Check that you are following Justice for Bullies with your notifications “ON” so that you don’t miss our upcoming posts – they are directly related to Calgary but good reading for all advocates.
Again, please keep calm, polite and strategic with your communications. Fortunately, at this stage it is only a request for feedback (not proposed legislation) and our best shot for a breed-neutral Calgary is to provide that feedback in a clear, united, and respectful manner.
