HELP US SPREAD FACTS AND NOT FEAR BY SHARING.Dog attacks induce fear, and fear leads to breed-specific legislation. It's natural for people to be shocked and scared when a bad attack happens, but it's important to keep things in perspective. Dog bite related fatalities are thankfully fairly uncommon. Death by furniture, bags, buckets, cattle and horses- not to mention heart disease or cancer – are statistically more likely. #endBSL#notoBill128#Canada150#BSLbytes---The graph below was inspired by the book “Dogs Bite (but balloons and slippers are more dangerous)”. #BSLbytes 1

#BSLBytesOver the last 30 years, “pit bull” type dogs have been most commonly targeted under breed-specific legislation, partly because of the notion that they are owned and sought after by “undesirable” owners. However, this is a perception issue and can extend to many different breeds. Boxers, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Chow Chows, Akitas, Shar Peis, German Shepherds, and Mastiff breeds are just a few that have been restricted in parts of Canada.https://justice-for-bullies.myshopify.com/pages/bslincanada1/150

As it stands today, January 1st 2017, we have over 200 places in Canada that enact a form of breed specific legislation (BSL). https://justice-for-bullies.myshopify.com/pages/bslincanadaWhen I state this I am often challenged and told that the information I am citing is incorrect. The main reason this happens is because people are failing to realize that breed specific legislation is not only in the form of a ban. BSL can range from something as mild as a higher licence fee for specific breeds to an all-out ban, including mandatory destruction of any prohibited dog found within the boundaries of the legislating jurisdiction.Some...

The Justice for Bullies journey

Posted by Chantelle Mackney on

Two years ago today Justice for Bullies was founded. My mother Susan Mackney and I were sitting on the couch talking about “pit bull” type dogs and the unfair treatment they received and my mother basically said do something more than complain (in the most encouraging, motivational and motherly way possible). So after trying to figure out the who, what, where, when and why we put our goal into an action. The first step was creating a name for our Facebook group. We contemplated a few things, bounced around a few ideas as with my mother’s suggestion we came up...
